Dr. Syrop is a graduate of Columbia University, School of Dental and Oral Surgery and has taught on the staff of the Columbia Dental School for over twenty years. For fifteen years he served as director of the Oral Facial Pain Program, overseeing the facial pain clinic and teaching dental students and residents. In addition, he is the section chief of TMD at New York Presbyterian Hospital and a member of the faculty at Weill Medical College. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Orofacial Pain. He is past chairman of the Education Committee of the New York Academy of Dentistry, responsible for teaching ethics programs at dental schools.
In addition to his academic responsibilities at Columbia and NY Presbyterian Hospital, he also teaches in the ethics program at New York University Dental School. He is an active member of numerous dental organizations including the American Academy of Orofacial Pain, the Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, the New York Academy of Dentistry and the American Dental Association.
